Steven Ragsdale

The Sanctuary Studio is pleased to welcome acclaimed saxophonist, composer, and educator Steven Ragsdale for an evening of exceptional jazz featuring some of Southern California’s finest musicians.

A versatile performer equally at home in intimate ensembles and world-class big bands, Steven brings a wealth of experience shaped by years of performing alongside many of the region’s most celebrated jazz artists. His thoughtful musicianship, expressive improvisation, and deep command of the jazz tradition have made him a sought-after collaborator across concert stages, recording studios, and educational institutions alike.

Throughout his career, Steven has performed with renowned ensembles including the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, the Buddy Rich Big Band Machine, Bill Cunliffe’s BACHanalia Big Band, the Ladd McIntosh Big Band, and numerous other orchestras, studio projects, and large ensembles. As both a performer and composer, he combines technical mastery with warmth, lyricism, and a spirit of collaboration that shines through every performance.

In addition to an active performing career, Steven serves as Adjunct Professor of Music at Riverside City College, where he teaches jazz improvisation, music theory, private instruction, and directs jazz ensembles. A dedicated mentor, he is passionate about inspiring the next generation of musicians through both collegiate teaching and community education. He is also proud to be an Eastman Performing Artist.
