Making Memories
Nichole McDaniel, 2021
This art piece exemplifies what Dana Point is; beautiful. As Richard Henry Dana, Jr. said, “There is no prettier sight in the world than a full-rigged, clipper-built brig, sailing sharp on the wind.” The purpose was to capture a moment that portrayed what the city was about. Being from the mid-west, whenever my family is visiting, I try to make visits with my parents as memorable as possible. My design is from a gorgeous afternoon with my dad, deep sea fishing off the coast of Dana Point. The sights of Dana Point Harbor and the ocean are unparalleled. My goal was to capture the feeling of a day by the water in Dana Point, from the rich blue sea to the gorgeous coastline. Life is about the experiences and memories made; Dana Point offered seemingly endless activities that allow for memories to last a lifetime.
Nichole has previous experience working on public art projects. In 2019 she painted a mural in the City of Los Angeles as part of a local gallery’s “Alley Project,” whose purpose was to turn”blight to bright” and enliven the community as a whole. In 2020, she had the pleasure of painting two more murals, one in Del Mar and another in San Clemente.
